Why was the brick opened?

The important connection was behind the wall. Early in the video, the on-screen explanation describes opening enough of the area to see whether the connection was soldered or threaded. That access let us see the piping involved in this replacement.

The full video moves from removing brick and exposing the connection into the faucet and copper repair. By the start of the brick-restoration section, the new blue-handle faucet is in place and the opening is still visible around it.
